Silent Witness I

Silent Witness I

The town of Chornobyl is located about 14km from Reactor 4 at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. It was one of the over 70 settlements that had residents evacuated after the Nuclear Reactor exploded in 1986. Prior to the disaster the town was home to about 14000 people. Today, the town houses a population hovering just over 700; primarily workers that still toil at the Power Plant, Exclusion Zone guards and administrative personnel, plus some self settlers, original homeowners that returned, refusing to give up their homes. There are also workers that operate two general stores and a small hotel for tourists.

This window adorns one of the many homes whose occupants never returned.
