The iconic lotus bud shaped towers of Angkor Wat are the symbol of Cambodia. The temple complex on which they adorn is part of the largest religious monument in the world, with the site measuring 162.6 hectares or 402 acres). It was originally constructed in the 12th century as a Hindu temple for the god Vishnu, gradually transforming into a Buddhist temple towards the end of that century
